Arlanda to Sigtuna, fifteen minutes to the year 980.

Arlanda Airport stands inside Sigtuna Municipality, so you are already in the kommun when the wheels touch down — Sweden's oldest town is a quarter of an hour away. It is the shortest journey we run, which means the rate card stops applying and the minimum fare takes over: 445 SEK, the lowest figure we publish for anything.

Quick answer

A private transfer from Arlanda (ARN) to Sigtuna is 445 SEK in an Economy sedan and 595 SEK in a Standard Mercedes E-Class, per vehicle, for a drive of 15 km and about 15 to 20 minutes. This is the one route where the minimum fare decides the price rather than the per-kilometre rate: the arithmetic gives 420 SEK for an Economy sedan, which sits below our 445 SEK floor, so the floor applies — and it applies equally to Märsta, Arlandastad, Rosersberg, Wenngarn and Steninge. You should also know the honest alternative: SL buses leaving the terminals avoid the Arlanda passage fee, so a 43 SEK ticket reaches Sigtuna with one change at Märsta in about 36 minutes.

This one is the floor, not the formula.

Every other route on this site is priced by the kilometre. Sigtuna is close enough that the arithmetic falls through the minimum fare, so the minimum is what you pay — and it is the same for every address in the kommun.

Figures in SEK, per vehicle, VAT included, along with the Arlanda access charge, parking, waiting time and luggage handling. These are the minimum fares for each vehicle class rather than starting-from prices — on this route they are the price, and they do not move with the address. A night surcharge may apply between 23:00 and 05:00 and is always shown before you confirm.

Why every class shows its minimum here

Our fares are a base fare plus a per-kilometre rate for the distance actually driven, rounded up to the nearest 5 SEK, with a minimum fare per vehicle class underneath. Sigtuna is close enough that the calculation lands below that floor in every class — so the floor is the answer. The table shows the arithmetic rather than hiding it.

Read the Economy row across: 255 SEK base + 11 SEK × 15 km = 420 SEK, which is below the 445 SEK minimum for that class, so 445 is what you pay. The crossover for an Economy sedan sits at about 17 km — everything nearer than that is 445 SEK, everything beyond it goes back onto the rate. The same card gives 585 SEK to Kista at 30 km and 695 SEK to Stockholm at 40 km, so you can check any quote we send you.

1

A floor, not a surprise

The minimum exists because sending a licensed car and driver to a terminal costs the same whether the journey is 5 km or 15. It is published so it cannot be applied selectively.

2

Distance, not the clock

The rate runs on kilometres driven door to door, not on minutes. Traffic, a delayed flight or a slow baggage belt cannot move the number.

3

Same fare across the kommun

Because everything here sits under the crossover, the airport hotels, Märsta, the old town, Steninge and Wenngarn all cost the same. Nobody subsidises anybody.

4

Fixed before you book

You see the exact total, in writing, before you confirm. Tolls, the Arlanda access charge, parking, waiting time and luggage handling are already inside it.

02 — Your address

Flat to seventeen kilometres, then the rate resumes.

A rare chance to see a pricing floor working in public. Everything inside the crossover is 445 SEK in an Economy sedan; past it, the per-kilometre rate takes over again.

Distances are terminal to district centre; your exact street may sit a kilometre either side and the quote will say so. The 445 SEK minimum holds for every Economy journey inside about 17 km — which is most of Sigtuna Municipality — and the per-kilometre rate resumes beyond it. Other vehicle classes cross over at slightly different distances because each has its own floor.

Continuing to Uppsala, Solna or central Stockholm? The same rate card applies and the figure simply follows the extra kilometres. All routes and prices
03 — The honest comparison

The bus costs forty-three kronor.

There is a quirk in the fare system that works in your favour, and we would rather explain it than hope you do not notice it.

How you travel Two adultstotal, one way Four adultstotal, one way Time What actually happens
SL bus, change at Märsta583 then 570 or 575 86172~36 min One 43 SEK ticket covers both legs. Buses leave from the terminals, so no Arlanda passage fee — the quirk that makes this so cheap.
Private transferour Economy sedan 44544515–20 min Driver meets you in arrivals, takes the bags, sets you down at the exact address. Per car, so four people pay about 111 SEK each.
Train via Arlanda Cthen bus from Knivsta 380760~41 min Uses the station, so the 147 SEK passage fee applies per adult. Slower and dearer than the bus — there is no reason to choose it.
Taxi from the rankauthorised operators variesvaries15–20 min Fine if you check the yellow price sticker before getting in. Short runs are where unmetered pricing surprises people most.

Fares in SEK, adult one-way, cheapest first because on this route the cheapest is genuinely good. The saving comes from a structural quirk: the Arlanda passage fee is charged to pass the barriers at Arlanda C station, so SL buses departing from the terminals never trigger it and a plain 43 SEK ticket does the whole job. Note also that the direct bus 579 appears in some timetables but does not run frequently — check SL before relying on it rather than the Märsta change. Against 445 SEK the bus wins on price at any headcount up to about ten; the car wins on the things a timetable cannot fix.

04 — When to book us, when not to

We are ten times the bus. Here is when that is right.

On a fifteen-minute journey with a 43 SEK alternative, a car has to justify itself specifically rather than generally. Three situations do it.

The venue problem

Steninge and Wenngarn are not on a bus route

The old town is well served. Sigtunahöjden, the Sigtuna Foundation, Steninge Palace and Wenngarn Castle are not — they sit outside the centre, and they are precisely where conferences, weddings and retreats happen. A change at Märsta followed by a sparse rural connection, with luggage, is a poor arrival for a delegate or a wedding guest.

The maths of a group

Four people change the answer

Our price is per vehicle, the bus is per person. One traveller compares 43 SEK against 445 and takes the bus. Four travellers compare 172 against 445 — about 111 SEK each — for half the journey time, door to door, with the bags carried. Six in a V-Class works out at 133 SEK a head.

The evening

Connections thin out, and it is dark by three

The Märsta change depends on two buses meeting. That is fine at midday in June and much less fine on a Sunday evening in January, when services are sparse and a missed connection means standing outside. We run every hour of the year at the same published fare.

1

We watch the flight

Dispatch tracks your flight number from the moment you book. Land early, land four hours late — the pickup moves with the aircraft and you tell us nothing.

2

Free waiting runs

60 minutes from touchdown on Schengen arrivals, 90 minutes on intercontinental. That covers passport control and the belt without a clock running against you.

3

Name board in arrivals

Your driver stands inside the hall, not in a car park. You get their name, photo and mobile number by message before you land.

4

A quarter of an hour

Bags loaded, and Sweden's oldest town fifteen minutes later. It is short enough that most guests are surprised when the car stops.

Worth saying plainly

One or two of you, hand luggage, a daytime arrival? Take the bus

At 43 SEK against 445 — a tenth of the price — for a journey that takes about twice as long with one change at Märsta, the bus is the right answer and we will not pretend otherwise. Sigtuna is the cheapest place in Sweden to reach from an international airport by public transport, because the buses leave from the terminals and dodge the passage fee entirely. Book us instead when that stops being true: checked luggage, three or more travellers, a venue outside the town centre, an evening or winter arrival, a wedding or conference party landing together, or a layover, where every minute spent waiting for a connecting bus is a minute you do not spend in the old town.

05 — Layover trips

A thousand-year-old town, inside a long connection.

Very few major airports have somewhere genuinely worth seeing fifteen minutes away. Arlanda does, and a five-hour connection is enough to use it.

Prices per vehicle for up to three guests; a six-seat V-Class or a Sprinter is quoted the same way from its own minimum fare. Drop and collect is built from two ordinary transfers — 445 SEK out and 445 back — so you can check it against the rate card like anything else. The held option is three hours at our published chauffeur rate of 495 SEK an hour, because the car and driver are yours for the window rather than doing other work. It is the one fixed package that sits below our four-hour minimum for open chauffeur hire, since the route and the duration are both set. We time everything backwards from your onward flight, not forwards from your landing.

Read this before booking

You can only leave the airport if you are entitled to enter the Schengen area. If you are connecting airside without clearing passport control, or you would need a visa you do not hold, this trip is not available to you and no amount of planning on our side changes that — check your own position before booking. Beyond that: we recommend a connection of at least five hours for a three-hour visit, which leaves two hours to be back and through security. Your baggage must be checked through to your final destination or travelling with you. And if your inbound flight is late, we shorten the visit rather than the buffer — the onward flight always wins.

06 — At the airport

Met at the right terminal.

Arlanda has three working terminals and Terminal 2 is a separate building. Give us the airline at booking and the driver will be standing in the correct hall.

T5

Terminal 5

SAS, Star Alliance and most intercontinental arrivals. The largest arrivals hall at Arlanda, and where most layover guests come through.

T2

Terminal 2

oneworld, SkyTeam and several low-cost international carriers. A separate building south of the main complex — a driver waiting at Terminal 5 by mistake costs you twenty real minutes.

T4

Terminal 4

Domestic arrivals from Gothenburg, Malmö, Luleå and the regional network. Linked to Terminal 5 on foot through SkyCity in five to seven minutes. Terminal 3 is closed.

✓

What we do

Name board inside the hall, luggage carried to the car, and — on a layover — a driver who already knows which terminal your onward flight leaves from.

Staying at an airport hotel rather than in town? Many run their own free shuttles, and if that is the better answer for your arrival we will say so rather than sell you a car you do not need. Read the airport guide
07 — Where we take people

Older than the country that grew around it.

Sigtuna was founded around 980 and has been continuously inhabited since, which makes the fifteen-minute drive from a modern airport a slightly unreal experience.

01

Conferences, weddings and retreats

The commercial heart of this route. Sigtunahöjden, the Sigtuna Foundation, Steninge Palace and Wenngarn Castle run conferences, weddings and retreats all year, and all four sit outside the town where public transport is thin. Delegates and wedding parties tend to land together: six in a V-Class at 795 SEK, fourteen in a Sprinter at 1 295 SEK, and a convoy above that.

Groups and events →
02

The old town

Stora Gatan, reckoned Sweden's oldest main street, runs a few hundred metres beside Lake Mälaren. Around it stand Mariakyrkan — the first brick building in the Mälaren valley — the ruins of St Olof's and St Lawrence's, and the smallest town hall in the country. Over forty runestones have been found here. It is a walkable afternoon, which is exactly why it suits a layover.

Private tours →
03

Märsta, Arlandastad and the hotels

Arlanda stands inside Sigtuna kommun, so the airport hotels, Airport City, Arlandastad and Märsta are six to ten minute hops, all at the same 445 SEK minimum fare. Many hotels run free shuttles and we will tell you when that is the better option. Where we earn the fare is an odd hour, a hotel without a shuttle, or a group with luggage.

08 — Sigtuna questions

Arlanda to Sigtuna, answered.

Going further afield? See Arlanda to Uppsala and Arlanda to Stockholm. Terminal practicalities are in the airport guide.

How long does it take to get from Arlanda to Sigtuna?
15 to 20 minutes for the 15 km. It is the shortest route we operate — Arlanda Airport is itself inside Sigtuna Municipality, so you are already in the kommun when you land. Märsta is about 10 minutes away and the airport hotels at Arlandastad about 6. There is no meaningful congestion on this route; weather matters more than traffic, and in heavy snow we bring the pickup forward rather than driving faster.
How much is a transfer from Arlanda to Sigtuna?
445 SEK per vehicle in an Economy sedan and 595 SEK in a Standard Mercedes E-Class, for up to three guests with luggage. A six-seat Mercedes V-Class is 795 SEK and a fourteen-seat Sprinter 1 295 SEK. Sigtuna is the one route where the minimum fare rather than the per-kilometre rate sets the price: at 15 km the arithmetic gives 420 SEK for an Economy sedan, below the 445 SEK minimum for that class, so the minimum applies. 445 SEK is the lowest figure we publish for any journey anywhere.
Why does Märsta cost the same as Sigtuna if it is closer?
Because both sit below the distance at which our per-kilometre rate takes over. Fares are a base fare plus a rate per kilometre, with a minimum fare per vehicle class as a floor. For an Economy sedan that floor is 445 SEK and it covers anything inside roughly 17 km — the airport hotels, Arlandastad, Märsta, Rosersberg, Sigtuna town, Wenngarn and Steninge alike. Beyond it the rate resumes: Knivsta and Upplands Väsby at about 20 km come to 475 SEK, Vallentuna at 28 km to 565 SEK. The floor exists because sending a licensed car and driver to a terminal costs much the same whether the drive is 5 km or 15.
Isn't the bus much cheaper than a transfer to Sigtuna?
Yes, dramatically — about a tenth of the price — and you should know why. SL buses leaving from the terminals do not pass through Arlanda C station, so they never trigger the Arlanda passage fee that makes the train expensive. A standard SL single ticket of 43 SEK covers bus 583 to Märsta and the connecting 570 or 575 on to Sigtuna, roughly 36 minutes with one change. A direct 579 appears in some timetables but does not run often, so check SL rather than counting on it. Against 445 SEK for a car the bus wins outright for one or two people travelling light in daylight. We earn our place on luggage, on evenings and winter when the connection thins, on venues no bus serves, and on groups — four people in one car is about 111 SEK each.
Can I visit Sigtuna during a layover at Arlanda?
Yes, and Arlanda is one of very few major airports with a genuinely old town fifteen minutes away. Two ways to do it: drop and collect from 890 SEK, where the driver leaves and returns at an agreed time — best when you have three hours or more; or car and driver held with you from 1 485 SEK for up to three hours, then 495 SEK per additional hour. One condition matters more than the price: you may only leave the airport if you are entitled to enter the Schengen area. If you are connecting airside without clearing passport control, or you would need a visa you do not hold, this trip is not available — please check your own position before booking. We recommend a connection of at least five hours for a three-hour visit, and if your inbound runs late we shorten the visit rather than the buffer.
Where exactly does the driver meet me?
Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, holding a board with your name — not at a rank and not in a car park. Terminal 5 for SAS, Star Alliance and most long-haul, Terminal 2 for oneworld, SkyTeam and several low-cost carriers, Terminal 4 for domestic. Terminal 3 is closed. You get your driver's name, photo and mobile number by message before you land.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing that costs you money. We track the flight number rather than the clock, so the pickup moves with the aircraft whether you are twenty minutes late or four hours late. Free waiting is 60 minutes from touchdown on Schengen arrivals and 90 minutes on intercontinental. There is no surge pricing and no rebooking fee for a delay. On a layover booking a delay eats into the time in town, never into the margin for your onward flight.
Do you drive to Sigtunahöjden, Steninge Palace and Wenngarn?
Yes, and these are the addresses that most justify a car. Sigtunahöjden, the Sigtuna Foundation, Steninge Palace and Wenngarn Castle are conference, wedding and retreat venues set outside the town centre, where the bus network is thin and a suitcase makes the last stretch unpleasant. All of them fall inside the minimum-fare zone, so an Economy sedan is 445 SEK whichever one you are going to. For a delegation or a wedding party landing together, six travel in a V-Class and fourteen in a Sprinter as one booking.
Do you serve Märsta, Arlandastad and the airport hotels?
Yes. Because Arlanda sits inside Sigtuna kommun, the airport hotels, Airport City, Arlandastad and Märsta are all very short hops — six to ten minutes — and all priced at the 445 SEK minimum fare. Worth saying: many airport hotels run their own free shuttles, which are frequent and perfectly good, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a car you do not need. Where we earn the fare is an odd hour, a hotel without a shuttle, or a group with luggage.
Can you take a wedding party or a conference group?
Yes. Six guests travel in one Mercedes V-Class at 795 SEK and up to fourteen in a Sprinter at 1 295 SEK, both as a single booking and a single price — which on a fourteen-seat minibus is about 93 SEK a head, comfortably below the bus once you count the change at Märsta. Above fourteen we run a convoy of matched vehicles arriving together, the usual arrangement for weddings at Steninge and Wenngarn and conference cohorts at Sigtunahöjden. Send the flight number and the headcount and we price it as one job.
How far ahead should I book?
Twenty-four hours guarantees the vehicle class you want. Sigtuna's pressure points are the wedding season at Steninge and Wenngarn, the summer tourist months, and conference weeks at Sigtunahöjden and the Sigtuna Foundation. Layover trips are worth booking further ahead because they are timed against a specific onward flight and we would rather plan them than improvise. Same-day requests are taken whenever a car is free; inside a few hours, call dispatch rather than booking online.
